Accessible Dance

Our accessible dance class will be held on Saturdays from 9-10 am starting on August 22, 2026. This class, running since 2022, aims to remove the barriers to learning dance for all individuals while continuing to infuse rigor and joy into the curriculum.

Dancers will do creative movement for 30 minutes and tap for 30 minutes. We will do our best to achieve a 2:1 student/teacher ratio*, assigning a student assistant to every two dancers in the class. *based on student assistant availability

Who is this class for? This class is available to disabled, d/Deaf, neurodiverse, and non-disabled individuals aged 5-18. Not sure if you or your dancer is the right fit? Email info@coomerballet.com to inquire and schedule a consultation with the program director.

Meet the Teacher

Aimee Kilgore (she/her) is a pre-registered Dance/Movement Therapist with 5+ years of instruction experience in inclusive dance. She teaches for Houston Ballet’s Adapted Dance program where she leads free classes to individuals with Down Syndrome with DSAH (Down Syndrome Association of Houston), does bedside dance sessions in MD Anderson’s Pediatric Oncology unit, and travels to special education classrooms in elementary schools throughout HISD. She attended National Dance Institute’s DREAM Project teacher training in 2023 where she expanded her knowledge of leading an integrated dance class with both disabled and non-disabled individuals. She most recently spent a year fulfilling an internship at Gigi’s Playhouse Sugarland, a nonprofit organization offering free programming to children and adults with Down Syndrome and their families. Currently, she is entering her final year of her Master’s program in Dance/Movement Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Aimee hopes to infuse a genuine sense of joy and rigor into each class with the ultimate goal of bridging the gap between dance and disability.
